Montezuma's Daughter is a novel written by the Victorian adventure writer H. Rider Haggard. Narrated in the first person by Thomas Wingfield, an Englishman whose adventures include having his mother murdered, a brush with the Spanish Inquisition, shipwreck, and slavery. Eventually, Thomas unwillingly joins a Spanish expedition to New Spain, and the novel tells the fictionalized story of the first interactions between the natives and European explorers. This includes misunderstandings, prejudice on the part of the Spaniards, and ultimately open war. During the course of the story, Thomas meets and marries the daughter of the native king (from whom the novel takes its title) and settles into life in Mexico. The war destroys his native family, and eventually Thomas gets revenge on the antagonist and returns to England.

Great condition!
Kept me on the edge of suspense until I finished it. Sometimes it was hard to slosh through a dull part or several, but you never could predict how the story would come out.
Did not know what to expect but ended up liking the book. Revealed a people with a dark side and the challenges to be overcome.
Gives another view of Cortes in Mexico and a good description of Montezuma's empire and culture at the time of the Spanish invasion.
I bought this book on a whim because the title sounded interesting to me. I found it to be very interesting and was not able to put it down.
I hadn't read this Haggard novel before. But like all the other works by him, I enjoyed it immensely. As in the others that I've read, the main character has the physical and moral courage that seems out of place in today's world. Would that there were more of it.
I ordered this for a friends kindle. She must have liked it as she is an avid reader and I've not heard otherwise. There are many kindle free editions of books and its nice, in this economy, to have access to reading material that is free. Thanks, , for this service..
